Fallen Rune Stone

Yesterday I went in search of rune stone U16. Today I went back to visit U18 (here it is on Panoramio and Google Earth). This stone was carved sometime near the year 1000 but sadly this winter uprooted some trees and then the stone.

You can find more information about runes and the runic alphabet at this Wikipedia link.

The sign for U18. It is just a fragment of the text still visible. "reste denna sten efter sin gode frände i Vik" translates to "raised this stone after his good mate in Vik"
