Drottningholm Palace is on UNESCO’s World Heritage list. It is the most well-preserved royal castle built in the 1600s in Sweden and at the same time is representative of all European architecture for the period (source: Swedish Royal Court).
I live 17 km from the palace, but to get on and off of the islands of Ekerö kommun, you have to pass by Drottningholm Slott. The only way in and out is by bus, car, or bike. Lake Mälaren is a very large lake so you can get to and from all the islands of Ekerö kommun by boat, although I do not.
I don’t really have any stories about this place except that I pass by it everyday during my commute. To me it is not what I think of when I think palace, more like a very big mansion.
I just thought I would share a few photos I took last month and in the fall of 2009.
